I said so on here at the time...

that I would have sacked him in the summer, especially if we could have persuaded either Martinez or Benitez (unlikely though) to take the job. If we had gone all out for Martinez early on then I think we could have persuaded him. Hindsight says that would have been a great move, but equally I can understand why the club stuck with Hughton.

However the signs were always there...our finish in the league last season was okay, but we actually ended up with less points than in 2011/2012 where we had a "worse squad", whilst there were signs that we were in a huge decline as early as January 2012. People told me to "wait until next season, things will get better", but money generally doesn't alter a manager's philosophy, especially at our level.
