Just because it's traditional for boards to publically back a manager (usually a month or so before they sack him) doesn't mean it's the best thing to do. THe best way to show support to a manager isn't to come out and say it because everyone usually reads that as the death sentance. Instead, treat him the same as you would when he's doing well...eg, say nothing
