So here's a thing...

It seems the new excuse is that Hughton is trying to change the style of play so he needs even more time, now, the best we have played this season was probably in the first half against Cardiff, first half against Man U and, by the sounds of it, yesterday. Not a win in sight.

So, firstly it's a flawed argument as we appear incapable of playing a passing game and winning, let's delve into history to have a look at our most recent wins, West Brom, reasonable counter attacking performance away from home but not part of an attempt to instil a possession based philosophy, Palace, the best example of how Hughton has really tried to get results in his whole tenure, get in front, sit in, keep it tight, and don't worry about doing much else with the ball. A rare example of that actually working.

Secondly, the whole argument is bulls**t anyway. In the last few games he's played the two best passers of the ball that he inherited at the club, we then play slightly better football. Shocker. Everyone knows that Fox is a good footballer, Hughton chose to freeze him out. He's also chosen Elmander to play behind the striker instead of Wes all season, because as soon as we run out of ideas trying to pass the ball he needs someone he can start hoofing to. If he really wants to play attractive football why has he not played Wes far more regularly, and at least had Fox around the squad. Similarly at centre half, Bennett is the best ball playing centre half we have, he's only picked him when he's had to.

I try to keen an open mind, I just don't believe this is the start of any concerted effort to play better football. He only brought in Wes because he knew he had to do something after Fulham. We will lose at Everton and that will present Hughton with the perfect chance to drop Wes again, Bring in Elmander for Hull and wrap himself up in his comfort blanket of cautious, boring football.
