Can't believe I'm saying this but FA Cup tomorrow and I couldn't care less if Norwich wins or loses. Like many older
Americans, of which I am one, The FA Cup was our first
introduction to the passion of English football. It was presented just once a year, usually through ABC's Wide World
of Sports. To say it was a different sporting experience than what I was used to would be a huge understatement. It immediately drew me in and have been a fan ever since.
I understand that even back then money differences between the big clubs and the rest were obvious, but not to the point it seemingly has reached today. When the game has reached the point that you don't care about advancing in one of the worlds best sporting tournaments,
then in my humble opinion the sport is being damaged.
My wish for the new year is some kind of cap on team wages, whether hard or soft, so the roots of the original
game are not totally destroyed. Maybe then fans like myself can get back to cheering for a Cup run that would not damage chances of remaining in the top level. Just my two cents worth.
