The only way to lose weight permanently is to change your diet permanently rather than go on a diet.
I made the decision to change my diet and I've never looked back. Basically I eat: non processed food, no refined carbs or empty calories (apart from booze) and a lot of protein rich food. Essentially a high protein, high (good) fat diet.
I'm now 40 odd and in my best shape for 20 years.
