plus whatever he's dealing with now probably extends back to when he was a young up and

coming star of the football scene, before in his mind it all came crumbling down.

I'm guessing he didn't have the support to deal with everything properly back then, and now it's so far down the road, all his problems probably seem impossible to solve from his perspective, and too deeply ingrained to fix over the short-term, hence why I sadly think he will end up gone long before they are fixed (if that makes any sense)
