i used to think that about family and friends etc of people in his state

but tbf, it's a pretty impossible job, short of sacrificing everything else you do to make sure they turn their life around properly

one hell of a commitment, and yes ideally it should happen, but more often than not, their "support" network just doesn't/can't go far enough to ensure the reversal of their demise (it would seem)
