Is it possible that Holt had a clause in his contract that made him the highest paid player at the club?

To be fair from a business point of view it makes perfect sense as I mentioned the other day.

One interesting dodgy roomer.... the talk we asked about Toby Alderweireld

Even assuming Barnett and Ayala leave it still looks like too many players competing at CB, assuming he would start.
Maybe loan R Bennett short term or are we looking offload one of the regulars?
