I tend to agree. Even if he thought it was an intruder

he shot someone 4 times from close range through a toilet door. People seem to be forgetting that.

Mind you I have no idea what the law in SA is about shooting burglars. i assume you can probably go beyond the UK "reasonable force" doctrine although does the same apply to burgars who break in to lock themselves in your toilet!
