I think it's impossible to say: too many unpredictable elements to make a judgement.

I don't think we're having appreciably fewer shots, but we're seeming to be having more possession. I've got no stats for back-up, nor am I going to be looking for any, just gut feeling. Possession increase will see us concede fewer goals and ought to see more chances.

We could in theory start making more of the chances we do create and hence score a few more. Last season I don't recall us having loads of clear cut chances every game, with the exception of Villa perhaps. Maybe we're taking a bit longer to get the ball into the box, but it doesn't mean we're not doing it (see the crossing stats below). A lot came off for us last season, maybe not so much this year as yet.

Hughton also throws in fewer changes than Lambert - that also has its pros and contras. Much as I enjoyed the rotation of the squad/team, there's a lot to be said for a settled line-up as well. Tactical changes during a game don't always come off and although Lambert was good at affecting a game there does come a time when stability and sticking with a plan can also work.

So in short, I don't know. But I think we're starting to play well, maybe a bit more grown-up in style.
