Taxing the rich won't raise huge sums of money but will win some votes

If you're lucky enough to have a well paid job then you already pay 40% on anything you earn above ?35k and 50% on anything above ?150k.

A mansion tax is a tax on money people have almost certainly already been taxed 50% on.

Taxing the rich won't raise a large sums of money but its a popular policy for politicians to jump on.

The fundamental problem is the government is spending too much money on both services and welfare but thats an unpopular policy.

The biggest problem the country faces is the fact our political parties choose their policies based on what will win them the most votes rather then what would be best for the long term future of the country.
