I've done plenty of "live armed guards" in Germany in the late 80's when the IRA had an active cell (run by Donna McGuire) who were planting IED's and conducting drive by shootings at military bases and thought "i might have to shoot someone tonight". Of course scenarios run through your head and you fear/dread ever having to get involved to an extent where by you might pull a trigger.... the ethics etc.... but there were Rules of Engagement in place to protect you, but also to protect THEM....
Only fire if life is threatened - give warnings that you're live armed, but you cant fire unless your life is threatened.....
Its all aout controlling the situation. I accept 99.9% civvies dont have this, but the law is the same nether-the-less.
