eenin all. Settle something for me please? Mobile phone related

I use my moby for text messages, the occasional phone call, and for taking pictures of things at work to save a thousand words of explanation. But the screen is now so scratched that often I can't see what I'm snapping, so I was looking on t'net earlier to scout a replacement.

A mate, looking over my shoulder, recommended something because of the great apps available for such a cheap phone. I said I have no use for apps, and he pointed out that I like looking at movie trailers on HIS. I said Yes, True, but i only want basic pay-as-you-go and don't want to pay for mobile internet provision. he said he hasn't got any internet either, it comes with the app. I said Surely Not, You Must Have???, and things got confusing.

Am I right? Do you need mobile internet for apps? You must, surely?
