...which can seem quite abstract in other contexts. Auschwitz really brings stuff home that can seem wrong in the abstract in a nice comfy classroom at home. And as I was trying to say in y garbled post above one of the key points about the holocaust is how impossible it would have been without ordinary Germans, almost none of whom were rabid anti semites, though we were.

My kids took lots of things away. One of them was how important it is to contextualise your actions and realise the bigger picture you're helping to paint. I think that's incredibly valuable. Another was the reason I brought them up to despise bigotry and speak up against it.

Your mileage may vary. But these are valuable lessons and god forbid we ever forget the ultimate outcome of prejudice.
