Rooney

Certainly comes into the two short planks category but he has a very smart football brain, which is all that counts here. He's 10 times more worthy of a place than Crouch, who I never thought was up to that much when he was here. He had a hot streak at Saints last year but he doesn't have a strikers instincts. And he is one of those players who can win balls in teh air in the middle of the park but doesn't win many in the box (Robert Rosario came in that category). And he hasn't scored a single goal this season. I like him as a person (given the obnoxious normailty of England footballers) but he is actually of less use to the team than Heskey used to be.
