they called our bluff, continued to faff about with delays, so in the end we pulled out thinking we could do a quick purchase on another one that had no chain.
A year later we're now on our third attempted purchase which for various reasons is being delayed, and delayed...
It's a bloody weird market for buying at the moment.
No harm in politely telling the agents that that's what you're thinking of doing - they'll get the message. But actually making the threat might be more hassle than it's worth? I can't see any vendor absorbing much of a price reduction without trying to pass it along the chain, and that will just cause further delays whilst everyone plays pass the parcel with it - that's bound to annoy someone enough to pull out if there have already been lots of delays.
By the way, have you checked your mortgage offer recently? Our lender is offering mortgages at 0.64% less now than when we applied a month ago so we've just switched. As annoying as the delays have been, financially it's worked out well for us.
Lets just ignore the looming Crunch Mk2 and further price falls...
