PC help required

Mrs Caley and I are looking to purchase a new desktop PC in the next month or so. Something that can be used for surfing the net, watching *ahem* videos online, basic Microsoft product (or equivalent) work, games etc.

We are looking for something a bit more than a basic model and probably have in the region of ?500 to spend.

Any advice on what to look for/where not to look etc would be appreciated.
