Bale was being dealt with quite well by Sagna actually. Bale had most of his joy when Sagna went off injured and the inexperienced and slow Jenkinson came on. Spurs lost points by being too obvious with Bale last season, a lot of teams worked him out and he went through a long run of not making or scoring a goal in the Premier League.

Modric has been one of the best midfielders in Europe over the past 2 years, he didn't have the best of games today and neither did Spurs but he still ended up on the winning side. Modric was excellent against Liverpool.
