did people really dust off textbooks and encyclopedias pre-Google

or did they just think "ah f**k it, i can't be arsed" and then walked round in greater ignorance?

(or more probably ask Dave down the pub, who, try as hard as he might, was a bit of an ignoramous that invariably muddled up much of what he thought he knew)
