It seems to me that the trend for vilifying the Mail just compounds their prejudices

Reinforcing in their minds their idea that the wooly liberal majority are happy to let the nasty immigrants and benefits cheats trample over good honest Ingerlish folk. It's popular unfortunately because that's what people think, and criticising the paper won't make them change their minds. I just think you run the risk of stooping to their level if you let it rile you so.
