the big gamble that went wrong in my opinion

was that Hucks and Bentley would get enough goals between them that we would be able to play 3 "proper" midfielders with them and one outright striker. When it became obvious neither of them were going to do that we had to introduce another striker and the whole midfield became wafer thin.
The worst decision was his sticking with Eddy & (especially) Holt for so long. Virtually everyone on here could see it needed changing months before Worthy.
Not sure that he could have known Jonson (a player with a good international record for a decent nation) would look so poor - although maybe the fact that he hadn't been snapped up by a bigger team earlier might have given a hint...
