Yes, he used racist language to highlight a point but the point he was making is actually very accurate. The media and the Ministry of Defence are inherently racist. Compare Frankie Boyle to the comedians of the 1970s, where the language used was far more odious and racist and actually directed at minorities - this joke was aimed at the media and the government for their handling of war.
It's a bit like Johnny Speight with Alf Garnett in Til Death Do Us Part - using racism to highlight racism. Sadly, just as Johnny Speight was horrified to learn, I'd imagine a fair portion of Frankie Boyle's audience found that joke funny for the wrong reasons.
