on the other hand:
For players like Ruddy and Jackson, last night was a huge step up in pressure, being the first game of the League football season, televised and with the size of crowd they've never played in front of before. It's possibly a little premature to persecute them.
We're missing Korey Smith, who's still one of the most talented footballers at the Club. I think he's got everything that Russell had and more. He needs to come in for Fox (who's a respectable back-up for KS).
We're missing a fully-fit Holt, which is a massive loss. Beside Holt, C Martin is second rate - a bit of a flat-track show-pony. I would like to see Holt and Jackson together.
We're missing Whitbread and Askou, who must be better than Ward and Nelson (surely?). Nelson's commitment and courage are great, but he's not up to it. And having him as a rather hapless captain makes it difficult for Ruddy IMO, because how do bawl out your captain, who's ten years older than you and has been a pro for decades?
Two of their goals were down to our lack of concentration, and that can be cured by Dr. Lambert's Patent Dynamite Enema.
But.... despite having a massive squad, we don't have a right-back worthy of this League or enough cover in defence generally. It's a wake-up call for the players and the manager. A few days to save our Club...
