Norwich would have been perceived as wealthy, a tad exclusive and middle class, with no ghettos to speak of, or "inner City issues" etc etc-safe, sound, full of Churches...nice and no edge to it...
Derry, well, plucky City in area previously under the shadow of the "troubles" and now re-inventing itself, "brave", "plucky", "young", "vibrant" etc etc.
We didn't stand a chance-previous holder was Liverpool, and the next one will probably be somewhere like Bracknell or Hull! They don't choose places that have culture already (unless its one growing in the kitchens of all the tardy take aways), they choose one they want to inflict culture on (tap dancers from Romania and Togan nose flutists?) and thus patronise, we should be glad we have escaped it and all the tourists who will have the Forum turned into a multi-level TK Maxx and have three weeks of roten vegetables from the market exhibited at the Museum as "organic art in decay".
