there was plenty of talk before the WC of Johnson and Walcott in the squad but in the end Fabio was not brave enough to pick them even though he had tried them and played then in the qualifying games...it was the fear....maybe he was persuaded by more senior FA officials to go with experience over youthful exuberance.

A follow on to this is what was the point of Walcott going to the last WC to sit on the bench and gain experience only to be left out this time when he had enough experience to contribute more than SWP did.
