I fail to see how playing Rooney would affect the defence. If you wanted to play

defensively then you'd pick Rooney ahead of Berbatov or Macheda every time, wouldn't you ?

His tactics might have proven wrong in the end but I fail to see how Rooney has a direct impact on that.

If anything, blame Fergie for not adjusting with a view to shutting up shop at 3-0.
