There's a huge large answer to that question, however I'll condense it to this....

The ramifications of last season were bad for the club (risked long term reduced income in a league where the debt could not be sustained), however my personal view is that relegation will prove to be the making of this club as we know it now. It triggered a change at the top which has given the club a new lease of life almost.

However the club cannot be blamed for investing to try and secure the club's status in the Championship, the problem was that the investment wasn't managed well.
