Do the iPod and iPhone sound OK?

I think if you choose to import as AAC the sound quality is reckoned to be better than MP3. Set it as high as possible (320Kbps) as well, but it will use more memory. That shouldn't be a problem on a new computer.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure iTunes is fairly solid and doesn't go wrong much. I've just seen BC has written about the speakers. You haven't got a loose cable anywhere?
