Lambert's List

Seeing Rose on Saturday slot in so well (apart from the surprise of th elong throw) made me fairly convinced that right from the start Lambert has always had a definite list of players he'd buy. We know that cash hasn't been flowing freely, but it's almost as if he had the players he wanted to improve the squad overall, and those that he has in mind should anything go wrong - a la centre back injuries with Whitbread and leftback with Drury. This seems the contrast to previous seasons/regimes - we haven't brought a load in because they were out there, there's actually been some thought into the acquisition of players. And in the case of Seaborne, my hunch is that he also wouldn't pay over the odds for a player. He obviously wanted Martin and McNamee from the start and swooped at just the right time - McNamee peeing off Swindon and Peterborough in a mess.

This is what is so encouraging to me, and why I think/hope that promotion will not see foolish squad changes. In fact with players like Whitbread as a probable replacement for Doc longer-term, I sense the building is already in place.

Again I'm bringing in the comparison with Strachan at Middlesborough - big swoops for groups of players who will almost certainly struggle to have an early impact - goodness knows, we know how the Mass influx of Scottish players adapt to the Championship game.

Lovely old Lambert.
