O'Neil = winning games & no atmosphere

Megson = not winning games & poisonous atmosphere.

If Megson had won some games (especially at home) then the dissent would have been hushed.

Seems like you want it both ways; Megson was OK because he had to deal with an atmosphere (which was mostly of his creation), while Gunn's failure to rescue the Titanic makes him a failure.
