1. The fact that we were trying to sign a centre-back is instructive. After all, we have 2 other centre backs - Messrs Doherty and Charlton - signed by Mr Worthington at a combined cost of around ?1 million to play centre back in the Premiership. The fact that he was after another centre-back without having tried either of them in that position, in this lower league, gives a clear insight into how succesfully he himself feels that money was spent.
2. No attempt to sign a right-sided midfielder. So we will have gone from May 2004 to December 2005 without having anyone who can play in that position.
3. Looking on the bright side, at least he didn't try to sign another goalie or left-back. I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies.
