I think it's pretty clear that he was mainly interested because he thought he could get it for next to nothing. Buy some short-term achievement (i.e. promotion) by spending on players and then use the heightened profile to flog it on at a greatly increased price. Call me a cynic, but that's how Cullum operates and that's one way to make money out of football.
I came across some interesting claims from an Ipswich fan the other week on the WSC forums; they claimed that the debt south of the border is increasing because the interest is still accruing to Marcus Evans Group at 8% p.a. PLUS he has guaranteed himself a dividend of half a million a year - to be paid by the club.
