My main memory apart from the actual game

me and my bruv getting a bit lost on the tube, scrutinising one of those linear tube-maps on a wall, and choosing a platform - walking down some steps and onto a platform which was sardine-packed with Sunderland fans.

One moment of concern, and then one whiskey-reeking mackem stuck his face right up to mine and said "That's a funny looking scarf you've got on there" to which I replied, with a smile, "Yes it is and can I just say I hope you win?"

Everyone laughed and we travelled the rest of the way with them. They were brilliant.

Just as excellent: the Mackem fans after the game. Some dickhead copper sent us in completely the wrong direction after the game, and when we realsied, we had to walk back through thousands of Snudderland fans. Pretty much ALL of them wished us well, and granted that we were the better side on the day.

What a top, top, top day.
