Unwanted xmas gifts

Just opened an email from a friend who has bought me a sponsored hen-house and poultry for an African village as an xmas gift.

On basis that I wanted designer underwear would it be appropriate to ask her to exchange it or should I just write it off as a dreadful gift?

I once got just the polo neck bit of a jumper (fastened with poppers). That was far worse.
