We went to Sachsenhausen while in Berlin on our honeymoon. Its an experience.

Hard to describe it really, its not something that's enjoyable, because of what happened there.

It is very enlightening, and you learn something from places like these.

As you say, it gives you a small sense of how it must have been.

The holocaust memorial in Berlin as well is well worth a visit.
Its free, we went into the museum, expected to be there about half and hour as it was free, wasn't expecting much.
Think we were in there for free. Very very powerful and moving place.
