This is true; but they're getting much better

My Sony does SD brilliantly - in fact that's why I bought it. It does have a bit of a problem with fast moving sport; but the general superior clarity and colour makes up for it.

Thing is, though, the manufacturers are putting nothing into CRTs (and most are concentrating on LCD rather than plasma) so when you get a new one it'll likely have to be LCD or plasma. The latest LED backlit LCDs are the ones to go for I reckon.
