because he wasn't able to handle higher-level players: he failed to get the best out of Bentley, he didn't seem to have any idea how to use Mattias Jonson and his insistence on playing Edworthy over Helveg resulted in an embarrassing spat with the Denmark manager.
Then when we came down, he seemed to make a point of making the most unambitious signings possible, at least in summer 2005. Actually, his final permanent signings - Etuhu, Earnshaw, Croft and Dublin - were all pretty decent, but by then it was too late.
That's my two penneth, anyway.
