Seeing as we've got a proper Frog working at our place now I thought it'd be a good idea to pracky my French.

How long did it take you to be able to pick out words in a Frenchman's rapid speech?

I know that we slur too - worse, in fact, according to a German bloke I was talking to once - but I can hear in English whereas I can't hear in French.
