Iwan, I don't hate the guy. I don't blame him anywhere near as much as some have

For what happened either. I'll always give him credit for having the wherewithal to stand down when he did: I just think - and thought at the time - he was a crazy, unjustified gamble.

But "piss poor team"? In 06/7, we had Hucks, Dion, Etuhu, Safri, Croft and an emerging Martin. Defensively we struggled - but that team had ability, and underachieved woefully. It was light years ahead of what we have now. We hadn't backed Worthington properly that summer, so I'm not convinced the PPs had all been spent yet; and the problem that followed was a) his ridiculous choice of assistant manager; and b) lack of good enough contacts.

I think contacts are what did for Magilton at Ipswich: he wasn't able to sign the quality players such money should've been able to attract. At a slightly lower level, we ended up trawling Scotland and Eastern Europe - but were clearly unable to sign quality, Marshall excepted.
