The way I see it, there's a line in football. Above it are clubs who generally appoint people who've succeeded elsewhere first. Below it are clubs who generally don't. And a club just over a year past being in the Prem is CERTAINLY above that line.
West Brom appointed Mowbray; Brum appointed McLeish; Wolves appointed McCarthy; Palace appointed Warnock; Derby and later Forest appointed Davies; Southampton - back when they weren't completely screwed yet - appointed Burley. We went for Grant, and slid so far that we're now probably below that line: certainly with regard to 'big name' appointments, not at least when it comes to those who've done well with small clubs in Leagues 1 and 2.
