I would like some techy advice please.

Against my better judgement I'm going to buy a laptop. I'm going to be living like a gypsie for the next 2 months or so and will leave my desktop up in Preston so I have decided I'll find a wireless laptop useful. All I need it for temporarily is email and low internet use - I don't download stuff and just use the net for research so I'm guessing a Netbook (like a Dell Mini) would do. However, when I move I will use it (or maybe my son will) for normal PC stuff although that really is just office stuff plus storing music and photos.
My question is, do I get a netbook and, if so is it ok for later use, or do I get a bog standard laptop?
And, no, I don't want to get a friggin iFoon
