Yes, maybe we did or didn't have a huge budget for additonal players, but I'm sure Roeder said that some of the players he looked at were not good enough, and didn't want them. Or he didn't bother looking hard enough. Or perhaps his fabled contacts book only had Premiership names in it.
Other clubs have managed to find decent players, eg Wolves, Reading, Bristol City from the lower leagues, but Roeder, as a point of policy (in my opinion) has discounted that and gone for the quick fix option of loans, some of which have been awful, Sibierski, (little commitment), Koroma (just a corrupt selection at Southampton), Grounds (called back to play right back at Boro), Troy, (good old contacts book?) , and last season James Henry and Kieron Gibbs who were not ready for Championship football.
