...used to tap into that market, getting young, promising players, either from lower down the leagues, or top clubs reserve teams.

Invariably, they would prosper, their value would increase and we'd usually sell them on for a profit. I first recall this happening with Kevin Reeves.

Or we'd do the same via out youth team-the list is long.

If the Academy structure is holding us back, do we HAVE to "belong" to that set up? Can't we opt out and recruit who we want? Seems having that "status" is all well and good, but is it working?

Teams similar to us do their "shopping" in the lower and non leagues. Blackburn, FFS, have just signed a lad from Macclesfield!

I wonder if we never went in for the likes of Patterson, Vokes, the lad at Wolves et al because people at the club thought they weren't "good enough"?

What does it all say about our youth set up and scouting network that hasn't already been said a million times.
