Actually, I think your definition there is the difference between a "syndrome"

and a "disease" or "condition".

A syndrome being a collection of symptoms, which any one person may suffer from any number of, but which might not match the symptoms of someone else with the same syndrome.

But, again, I'm no expert. I do know someone with a "syndrome" though, and it's exactly like that.
