The reality is that these fares excl taxes and all the other add-ons so beloved by ryanair.

The BA fare, full-service remember, from Gatw to Newark is actually only 70 quid excl taxes.

By the time you pay your tenner to O'Leary, add on 10 quid booking fee, 20 quid for luggage, 10 quid check-in fee, 20 quid for grub, 10 quid for entertainment and a fiver for a quickie in the loos with Sinead from Cork, you may as well fly with a proper airline that won't leave you stranded at the drop of a hat.
