I just think Worthington had a spasm in summer 2005.

He'd not managed to get the best out of his more high-profile signings during the Premiership season - particularly Helveg, Jonson and Bentley (for whatever reasons) - and I think he just fell back on what had worked for him to a point in the past - that is, signing players who grafted, were not noted for being difficult personalities and who had experience at Championship level.

Unfortunately, he got pretty much every signing he made that summer wrong - the signings he made just before he left in 2006, though, were decent enough, and on the whole I think he did more good than bad. Just a shame he didn't leave a year earlier than he did!
