What version of OSX are you using?...

If you go to and open the Mac help (top right of Apple bar along top) and type in keychain it'll come up with links to open and reset/change keychain access.

I get keychain access problems now and again with the Mail prog on 10.3.9, it's usually more to do with BT Broadband playing up and disallowing the computer auto password access.
