You could well be right, perhaps...

the club thought that there would be a lot more interest in him and hope to get a higher fee. I'm not sure the club have handled it right either, but without knowing all the facts we can't be sure.

I (like most I expect) would have preferred it all to have happened a lot quicker in the correct manner as it has left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth.
