Lots of players will play M4A (not MP4, unless you mean video)

iTunes does most of it's downloads in M4A 256kbps these days (and without DRM), which I'd say is good quality (equivalent to MP3 320kbps). However, I still maintain 79p per track is poor value for money compared to the quality of original CDs and with CDs you can rip to whatever format & quality you like. Thus, while I use iTunes to organise my music, I've never bought a track from the store. Indeed, I have no interest in buying MP3s from any source for the same reason.
