"Most teams who have 8 pts at the end of October go down"
Glenn: you're going on about this a bit, and I'm not sure that's absolutely right. Now I'd like to be able to look through all divisions but don't know where to get the data, so my thanks to the marvellous people at Norwichcity-mad.co.uk for giving me the chance to look at the division we were in over the years.
Let's have a look:
2000 - Huddersfield bottom with 7 pts - went down. Owls and palace also in bottom 3, stayed up
2001 - Stockport bottom with 8 pts - went down. Walsall and barnsley also in bottom 3, Walsall stayed up.
2002 - Brighton bottom with 7 pts - went down. Owls and Grimsby also in bottom 3, both went down
2003 - Wombles bottom with 7 pts - went down. Bradford and Rotherham also in bottom 3, Rovvrum stayed up
2005 - Millwall bottom with 11pts - went down, Crewe and Plymouth also in bottom 3, Plymouth stay up
in bottom 3
2006 - Hull bottom with 9pts - stayed up, Barnsley and Sarfend also in bottom 3, Barnsley stayed up.
So you're right, Glenn, in pure terms. But wouldn't it be more accurate to say that skint teams who were bottom at the end of October usually go down, whereas clubs who were simply underperforming at the time, or who had decent funds available, still had a decent chance of staying up?
Everyone: I'm sorry to be going on and on about this and I honestly don't want to come across as being Anti-Roeder. I really, really, hope he does well for us - of course I do.
But let's not get carried away with all this He's Done A Marvellous Job For Us stuff, please, or we're setting ourselves up for possible disappointment. He's done OK, and that's the head and arse of it. His last 15 results last season went W4 D2 L9 F18 A23 P14 and include a 5-1 win against relegated Colchester.
But that's statistics for you, innit?
OTBC
In Glenn we're guardedly optimistic
